Conflict coaching involves learning about a different approach to conflicts; one leading to growth and improved communication in the troubled relationship. Next, the coach will help you determine how your natural (and usually unhelpful) approach to conflict may have made the situation worse, and how to make amends. Finally, conflict coaching prepares you with a plan to take action to resolve the conflict, and avoid future disputes.

Conflict coaching can be effective for an individual, even if the other spouse or person does not participate. If both spouses, or parties in another troubled relationship, participate (separately) in conflict coaching, the reconciliation process is usually very effective. Moreover, the coaching participant learns lifelong lessons for how to minimize conflict
